How to turn off automatic updates in Windows 10

Hey guys!! Here's a simple method as to how you can turn off those "annoying" and space consuming automatic updates on your Windows 10 "Home" & "Professional" versions. I've got the pro version so I don't really know if it works on enterprise but it's worth a go. Do comment if it worked for the enterprise users.

Let's get started.

  1. Go to Control Panel

  2. Now select Administrative tools
  3. Now you need to go to "Services"
  4. Just scroll down in the new window that opens up until you find "Windows Update" option
  5. Double click. Now to stop updates for only that session, click on "Stop" in "Service Status". Mine is already done so you don't see that option highlighted. Now if you want to permanently stop the updates, go to the "Startup Types" option and select "Disabled". Apply and OK.
  6. That's it, you're done. Just restart your computer and check in Settings-->Update and Security. You'll see something like this which means now you won't be automatically updating your windows even if you don't want to.
There's also this "Check for updates" option so you can now manually check for them whenever you want. In case you want to turn back your automatic updates feature, just go back where you disabled it and instead select "Automatic" or "Automatic(Delayed Start)" whichever you want and to start updating right away, click "Start" under the "Service Status".

Thank you.
